Jean Sweeney Open Space Park is one of the oldest parks in Dallas.
It was established in 1892 and named after Jean Sweeney, who served on the city council at the time.
The park was once home to a baseball field; however, because of poor maintenance practices over time it became unusable for play.
Around 2008, the city purchased this land from several private owners and began an extensive renovation project that included replacing damaged fencing and restoring paths through an area known as “The Swamp”.
